  3. INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS:
  4. --------------------------
  5.  
  6. TOP is intended for the IBM PC, PC/XT, PC/AT, or 100% compatibles. DOS 3.0 or
  7. greater is required. A Microsoft compatible mouse is recommended but not
  8. required.
  9.  
  10. TOP installation requires about 900 Kbytes of free disk space on the
  11. destination drive. About 300 Kbytes will be retured at the end of the
  12. installation. Installation to a low density floppy is not possible.
  13.  
  14. TO INSTALL:
  15. -----------
  16.  
  17. To install TOP, log on to the floppy drive containing the TOP release
  18. files, and type:
  19.  
  20.            INSTALL [drive_letter: [destination_path]]
  21.  
  22. Notes:     -If no parameters are specified, TOP will be installed to C:\TOP
  23.  
  24.            -If you wish to specify a destination_path, a drive_letter
  25.             must also be specified
  26.  
  27.            -Be sure to put a colon (:) after drive_letter.
  28.  
  29.            -Do not use a leading or trailing backslash (\) before
  30.             or after destination_path.
  31.  
  32.            -Be sure to put a space between drive_letter: and destination_path.

  35. Examples:  INSTALL               --- will install TOP to C:\TOP
  36.  
  37.            INSTALL D:            --- will install TOP to D:\TOP
  38.  
  39.            INSTALL D: TOOLS\TOP  --- will install TOP to D:\TOOLS\TOP
  40.  
  41. During the installation you will be asked for your TOP registration number.
  42. If this is a shareware installation and you do not have number, just press
  43. <ENTER> at the prompt.
  44.  
  45. INSTALL is a batch file. We made INSTALL a batch file so you can examine
  46. it first (if desired) to see what it's going to do. INSTALL does NOT modify
  47. your AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS, it just copies files to a directory and
  48. uncompresses them. However, some slight modifications to AUTOEXEC.BAT and
  49. CONFIG.SYS are recommended--see POST-INSTALL NOTES below.

  51. Up to date release information is available after starting TOP and typing:
  52.  
  53.            HELP !READ_ME
  54. and
  55.            HELP !-NEW-!
  56.  
  57. HELP is also available by pressing <F1>, or by pressing your left and right
  58. mouse buttons simultaneously and releasing them over the word HELP. A left
  59. click on any word in the HELP window accesses HELP for that topic.

  62. POST-INSTALL NOTES:
  63. -------------------

  65. It is recommended the TOP startup command be added as the last line of
  66. your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. To do this you would add the line:
  67.  
  68.            c:\top\top
  69.  
  70. as the last line of your AUTOEXEC.BAT file (if you installed TOP to
  71. the default C:\TOP).
  72.  
  73. Important: If you do not have a FILES= statement in your CONFIG.SYS
  74. file, or do not have a CONFIG.SYS file, you must create one and set the
  75. FILES equal to or greater than 9 (the default if not specified is 8). To
  76. create a CONFIG.SYS file from scratch (if you don't have one) type:
  77.  
  78.            cd\<ENTER>
  79.            copy con config.sys<ENTER>
  80.            files=20<CTRL+Z><ENTER>
  81.  
  82. Remember to reboot after any AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS changes so the
  83. changes will take effect.

  88. After installing TOP, change to the TOP directory and type:
